The wind and solar power in Longyuan are transmitted thousands of miles away, and the development of Qilu increases green energy. On May 8, the State Grid Corporation of China's Longdong-Shandong ±800 kV UHV DC project (hereinafter referred to as the "Longdong-Shandong Project") was completed and put into operation, marking the completion and operation of my country's first large-scale integrated energy base transmission project with "wind, solar, thermal and storage integration".
The Longdong-Shandong Project starts from the Qingyang Converter Station in Qingyang City, Gansu Province, passes through five provinces including Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei and Shandong, and ends at the Dongping Converter Station in Tai'an City, Shandong Province. The transmission distance is 915 kilometers and the total investment is 20.2 billion yuan. The project has achieved cross-regional optimization of energy resources, alleviated the contradiction between energy shortage in North China and resource enrichment in the west, and is of great significance for promoting energy transformation and promoting regional coordinated development.
A new channel has been added to the West-East Power Transmission
This year's government work report clearly proposed to "accelerate the construction of the 'Shagohuang' new energy base, develop offshore wind power, and coordinate the construction of local consumption and transmission channels", which has pointed out the direction for my country's energy development.
As a key state-owned enterprise fulfilling the national strategic mission, a backbone power enterprise ensuring national energy security, and a public utility enterprise serving the national economy and people's livelihood, State Grid Corporation of China adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implements the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Second and Third Plenary Sessions of the 20th Central Committee, implements the spirit of the two sessions of the National People's Congress, and deeply implements the new energy security strategy of "four revolutions and one cooperation", jointly promotes carbon reduction, pollution reduction, and green growth, accelerates the high-quality development of the power grid, and demonstrates the responsibility of a major country with practical actions.
Zhang Zhigang, Chairman and Secretary of the Party Committee of State Grid Corporation of my country, said that the Longdong-Shandong Project is another major energy artery for the transmission of electricity from west to east in China. The commissioning of the project will strongly support the construction of the "Shagohuang" base and the large-scale development and utilization of new energy, effectively serve the high-quality development of Shandong and Gansu provinces and the Yellow River Basin, and effectively drive the upgrading of electrical equipment manufacturing and industrial renewal. It plays an important role in promoting the intensive development and integrated development of new energy, promoting economic growth and regional coordinated development in Shandong and Gansu provinces, driving my country's equipment to move towards high-end and building a modern power industry system.
This power transmission artery is the first transmission project of my country's large-scale integrated energy base with "integrated wind, solar, thermal and storage", the first UHV DC project to be put into operation at full capacity at one time, the first demonstration project to explore and apply the "double 800" (i.e. ±800 kV rated voltage, 8 million kilowatts rated capacity) UHV DC standardization results, and the first demonstration project to apply the national "1025" special research results to break through the UHV "bottleneck" technology.
The project was approved by the state in February 2023 and started construction in June of that year. In order to actively respond to the multiple challenges of UHV "large-scale centralized construction, high-intensity innovation research, and high-quality transformation and upgrading", State Grid Corporation of China has made every effort to promote the extraordinary construction of UHV projects and gathered the funds of the whole society. Tens of thousands of engineering and technical personnel and construction teams have taken the "six precisions and four transformations" concept as the guide to build the Longdong-Shandong project with high quality, high standards and high efficiency.
After two years of hard work and perseverance, a winding energy channel stretching thousands of miles from the Longdong Plateau to the land of Qilu has been built, writing a new chapter in China's high-quality development of ultra-high voltage.
A new benchmark for ultra-high voltage construction
The Longdong-Shandong project has a supporting power supply of 14.5 million kilowatts, including 10.5 million kilowatts of new energy, and for the first time, 1.05 million kilowatts of energy storage is configured at the sending end base. Wind, light, and thermal power are bundled and sent out, which can achieve multi-energy complementarity and effectively improve the level of new energy consumption and utilization.
The completion and operation of the project will strongly support the comprehensive development of Gansu's large energy base, ensure the reliable delivery of more than 10 million kilowatts of new energy installed capacity, and help Gansu transform its rich resource advantages into economic advantages. At the same time, the project can transmit 36 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Shandong each year, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 16 million tons, and increase the power receiving capacity outside the region to 38 million kilowatts, of which new energy accounts for more than 50%, ensuring Shandong's safe and green energy use and meeting the peak electricity demand during the summer.
The reporter learned from the State Grid Corporation of China that the project is deeply integrated into the national innovation-driven development strategy. Relying on a series of major national science and technology projects such as "unveiling the list and taking charge" and "1025", the State Grid Corporation of China has jointly tackled key problems with industry, academia, research and application, and successfully developed "neck-blocking" equipment such as on-load voltage-regulating tap-changers based on independent topology and with completely independent intellectual property rights and DC control protection based on domestically produced chips, and took the lead in demonstrating their application in this project.
During the commissioning period, these new domestic equipment withstood the rigorous test of high voltage and high current, with stable performance and excellent indicators, achieving a new breakthrough in the independent control of my country's electrical equipment, and effectively improving the resilience and control of the supply chain of my country's high-end power transmission and transformation equipment industry chain.
In Gansu, the Qingyang Converter Station realized the first application of the DC control and protection system based on domestic chips, which promoted the leapfrog development of my country's high-end power equipment;
In Shaanxi, the project crossed the Yellow River for the first time, becoming the first large-scale UHV cross-over project in Shaanxi, and accumulated experience for the construction of UHV projects across the country;
In Shanxi, State Grid Shanxi Power Transmission and Transformation Engineering Co., Ltd. independently developed and put into use a new energy tension machine to achieve zero emissions and zero pollution in line construction;
In Hebei, Hebei Power Transmission and Transformation Co., Ltd. developed a concrete temperature intelligent housekeeper to accurately maintain the tower base after pouring and build a quality project;
In Shandong, State Grid Shandong Construction Company broke through the "karst + quicksand" geological challenges in the construction of Dongping Converter Station and accumulated key technologies.
The high-quality and efficient completion of the project has achieved a good start for the State Grid Corporation's "two cross and five direct" UHV project put into operation this year, creating a new benchmark for UHV construction in the new era, and marking that UHV has entered a new stage of standardized and large-scale development.
Relying on engineering practice, a series of "double 800" UHV DC standardization results have been explored and formed, forming more than 550 sets of standardized documents and more than 5,500 typical design drawings, formulating and revising 1 international standard, 9 industry standards, and 100 enterprise standards, which have played an important demonstration and leading role in the large-scale and high-quality construction of subsequent UHV projects.
So far, State Grid Corporation of China has built and put into operation 39 UHV projects of "22 AC and 17 DC", forming the world's largest UHV transmission network, providing strong support for ensuring safe and reliable power supply and promoting green and low-carbon development.
